John Johnston, President of Designer Kitchens

Johnston currently designs and executes one kitchen at time, working closely with homeowners and/or custom home builders to create a kitchen that reflects the owner’s personality, taste and budget.  

“When budgeting for that new kitchen”, John stated, “The homeowner should keep in mind that a residential kitchen is the most expensive room in the house.   Quite frequently, we are called upon to remodel kitchens on a very tight budget, and Designer Kitchens offers kitchen remodels in all price ranges .”  Johnston further stated that a remodeled kitchen has parallels with the cost of a new car and could range from economy to very high-end prices.  “A recent example at the high end level would be a new construction, whole-house project that included multiple design sessions incorporating specialized features, as well as delivery and expert installation of custom manufactured fine cabinetry, counter tops, lighting and other exacting details with a final cost exceeding $500K.”  While not our typically-priced kitchen remodel”, Johnston stated, “We assisted the homeowner in designing and providing the fine kitchen that met their lifestyle and desires.”

“Each individual project has specific details that require special attention to make the overall design morph into the beautiful and practical kitchen that the owner is looking for.  The same elements of great design are required in all projects we execute, while the same elements of cost are also present in each project.   Johnston concluded, “A kitchen remodeling budget is dependent on the price range our clients select.”   

Johnston has worked with some of the largest home building companies in the U.S. assisting them on efficient and cost effective kitchen design for hundreds of units at a time.  In addition, he also provides design expertise and products to local high-end home builders, some of which have been his client for more than 20 years. 

Since the early 1990s Johnston has volunteere for the NKBA (National Kitchen and Bath Association), a 38,000 member trade association, which serves and educates the residential Kitchen and Bath Industry members in the U.S. and Canada.
